Seahawk Athletes Need Your Support!
Division-III athletics are more competitive than ever and St. Mary's athletes are rising to the challenge. Last year, eight teams posted winning seasons; men's and women's swimming collected six medals at conference championships; men's lacrosse defeated Salisbury to claim the conference championship; the men's basketball team advanced to the Elite 8 for the second time in program history; and Seahawks continue to lead the conference academically with the highest percentage of our students posting a 3.2 GPA or better.
Our athletes' success is dependent upon the supportive network of parents, alumni, and friends who invest in the program.
How can you help?
This year, the Capital Athletic Conference has moved from the current seven members to an expanded ten team league. The additions of Christopher Newport University, Southern Virginia University, and Penn State – Harrisburg will make the CAC one of the most competitive conferences in D-III. While we are excited about the increase competition, we will also need to meet the resource needs that come with the increased travel and competition.
Funding a Full Coaching Staff
The top D-III colleges and universities fund full-time head coaches and a roster of assistant coaches. In order to compete and win at the highest levels we hope to move to a model where all fifteen of our NCAA sports are led by a full-time coach and we have resources available to fund assistant coach positions.
Recruiting the Best Athletes and Equipping them for Success
Competition for the best scholar athletes in the state and across the country increases every year. Our coaches work tirelessly to recruit talented athletes capable of competing at St. Mary’s both on the field and in the classroom. Increased resources would allow them to travel more, bring more prospective scholar athletes to campus, and ensure that they have the best equipment when they practice and compete.
Together we can make it happen. Here’s How!
