What Arts Alliance Membership Dollars Do:
Support for the efforts of SMCM faculty who have arts-related programs that bring people from the community to the Campus is an important part of the mission of the Arts Alliance. As such each Spring, SMCM faculty, who organize programs in film, art, theater, music and literature, are encouraged to submit applications to the Arts Alliance for modest grants. These grants are funded by membership dollars and support special projects, such as performances, lectures, exhibits, and workshops that bring the community to the College. This year, the Arts Alliance awarded more than $4,000 in grants to support faculty programming.
ArtsBridge, our student outreach program, is a partnership with local schools designed to bring students to the College for workshops in poetry, theater, music and art. This past school year, your membership support made it possible for more than 340 students from Great Mills, Leonardtown, Chopticon, St. Mary’s Ryken High Schools, and Fairlead Academy to participate in these workshops on campus.
Arts Alliance also funds monetary awards presented to outstanding St. Mary’s College of Maryland students at the annual Awards Convocation in April. The recipients for these awards demonstrate excellence in Film and Media Studies, Music, Theater, Creative Writing, and the Arts. They are chosen by the respective faculty department heads. This year the Arts Alliance recognized five such students for their achievements with awards of $400 to each student.
The Arts Alliance also provides annual support for the River Concert Series at the College.
