Support the Raices Hispanas Service Trip to Nicaruaga!

Raices Hispanas A Project of Campus Life and Student Programs

About the Service Trip

Last summer, St. Mary's students worked with an environmental education non-profit organization in Limon II, Nicaragua to help clean up the community and inform local residents about environmental practices. The students participated in projects such as filling old tires with trash to make an outdoor bench, creating stairs for the local playground, and painting a community mural.

For the Nicaragua trip in May 2014, students will study environmental literature in both the English and Spanish languages before the trip and then teach it in both languages to the children of the Library Puertas del Saber. The students will also compose a play using the literature and perform it with community members using props and costumes made from recycled materials.

How can you help?

All trip expenses are paid for by the students...except airfare.

Last year the trip was paid for by private donations, Student Government Association funding, and the generous donations of many other SGA clubs. This year the club hopes to send 14 students on the service trip.

Your gift today will help send our students on their way!
